Tian Tian and Yang Guang, the UK’s only giant panda duo are turning nine and you’re invited!
Head along to Edinburgh Zoo on 14th and 24th August 2012 for a whole host of birthday celebrations and help this famous animal pair celebrate their ninth birthdays in style. First up, birthday boy Yang Guang will celebrate his birthday on 14th August and birthday girl Tian Tian 10 days later on 24th August.
Face painters will be on hand to turn you into a panda or one of your other favourite animals. Get creative at one of the workshops and decorate a birthday cake, or paint your very own panda to take away as a souvenir of the special day. Party animals will also have the chance to write a birthday message for the pandas and get stuck in and help make a macaroni pasta panda that will go on display at the Zoo.
As well as the pandas turning nine this will also be their first birthday on Scottish soil! At 11am on both birthdays you’ll be able to see the pandas getting a taste of their special panda birthday cake and see what they think of their special bamboo birthday presents – panda ticket viewing at 11am only, booking is essential. A few of the other animal residents at Edinburgh Zoo will also be getting treated to a special slice of cake, swing by the troop of chimpanzees see what they make of theirs at 11.45am and then later in the day head over to see the rhinos munching on theirs at 2.45pm.
Be sure to bring your cuddly panda toy along to the party and enjoy the panda bear picnic, which will be taking place from 12.30pm-1.30pm where some special guests will be waiting to entertain.
There will also be lots of great competitions and prizes up for grabs during Yang Guang’s birthday bash – so be sure to keep an eye out for these. One lucky winner could even have the chance to meet our giant pandas, Tian Tian and Yang Guang up close in an exclusive behind the scenes experience with the UK’s only pandas!

Children’s picnic lunch boxes are available to purchase from our Grasslands and Jungle Food Court restaurants
