National Service Conscripts -were you the last one?

  2010 marks the 50th Anniversary of the end of National Service and the National Service (RAF) Association are looking to commemorate this important date. As well as holding a huge re-union and Parade at the RAF Museum at Cosford on July 4th, the association is also seeking the last conscripted National Servicemen from all 3 Services in the hope that the British Legion will allow them to march at the head of a column in the November Remembrance Parade at the London Cenotaph – rather as last three surviving WWI veterans, Bill Stone, Harry Patch, and Henry Allingham did in 2008.

Well-known photographer Julian Germain is appealing to service personnel, ex-service personnel and/or their friends and families to come forward with photographs of life in the armed forces - and the untold stories behind the images.

Help needed to trace miners in historic photo

 Organisers of an event marking the closure of two neighbouring collieries want to trace miners who featured in an historic photograph taken 25 years ago. The last coal from Lewis Merthyr and Ty Mawr collieries near Pontypridd was brought to the surface in June 1983 - and six miners gathered around that last dram for a photograph to commemorate the occasion.
