Discover your own voice with a creative writing course

Tony Watts, MT editor, has just added three more dates for 2010 to his 'creative writing' course programme. If you love to write, want to write, or just want to be a better writer, then this course might just be for you, as he explains.

To me, writing isn't just about sharing information, although that's a useful purpose. Or sharing an experience or an idea - as valuable as that is. My philosophy is that writing is making an invisible but powerful connection between ourselves and everybody who shares our space, a connection that can be life changing for everybody concerned.

And while not everyone thinks they have it in them to change other people's lives for the better - and their own - I promise you that everybody has a book, perhaps of their own life, a poem or short story in them that can make a difference. It just needs bringing to the surface. Writing releases your creativity, opens your heart and mind and can act as a wellspring for other parts of your life. It’s emotional, exciting and very fulfilling.

Part of my course will give you the confidence to write; part of it will give you some useful tools to improve your style; and part will be about learning to reach inside yourself and discovering your own voice.

I've had some phenomenal feedback over the last few years from the courses, all of which have been run at Warner Leisure Hotels. Of course, you can only get out as much as you're prepared to put in, but so many of the people who attended the courses have come back with kind words such as “Brilliant”, “inspirational”, and “quite the most motivating workshop I’ve ever attended”.

The courses, depending upon numbers, will give everyone at least six hours of tuition - and have some personal tuition time. Not only that, but we can have informal evening sessions where you can socialise with everyone on all the courses and share your work, your knowledge and the authors that have inspired you.

All this in the setting of an historic hotel where there is great food, and plenty of time for you and your partner to explore local places of interest or enjoy the hotel’s superb health, fitness and beauty facilities - or simply relax in comfort.

It doesn’t matter whether you are nervous beginners or experienced and skilled writers – everyone gains confidence and makes progress on these courses. Many of my former pupils have now published the book they’ve always meant to write or are seeing their short stories and poetry published.
