Andrew Johnston’s life experiences during the last six months read like a modern day fairytale. Andrew, head chorister at the Cathedral in his hometown of Carlisle has gone from ordinary schoolboy, bullied for his talent, to an absolute singing sensation almost overnight.
The 13-year-old has not only performed in front of millions of people on ITV1’s Britain’s Got Talent, but has also landed an enviable record deal with one of the most influential music figures in the business, Simon Cowell – a deal that Andrew could only have dreamt about previously. Andrew’s debut album ‘One Voice’ is released on the 29th September.
Andrew Johnston stormed into the public consciousness when he auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in Manchester earlier this year. He stunned audiences and judges alike, moving many to tears with his unforgettable rendition of Pie Jesu. Unbelievably, the audition for the TV show was the first time that Andrew had ever held a microphone and sung on stage. This audition has now been watched by more than five million people on YouTube.
His talent catapulted him to the finals of the TV show where 14 million people witnessed Andrew coming third, giving the performance of a lifetime. Subsequently, he joined his fellow finalists on the Britain’s Got Talent UK Tour, a 23 date live show that has seen him perform to audiences across the country.
The album ‘One Voice’, which Andrew recorded straight after the Britain’s Got Talent Tour ended, includes Fauré’s infamous ‘Pie Jesu’ for which Andrew is best known. Other tracks include a version of the classic song ‘Bright Eyes’ (from the movie Watership Down) first recorded in 1979 by Art Garfunkel and Eric Clapton’s beautiful ballad ‘Tears in Heaven’ which was written in 1992 as a tribute to his son who lost his life in a tragic accident. Also on the album is ‘Walking in the Air’, the unmistakable classic from the 1982 film The Snowman – a song previously covered by Aled Jones who has proved an inspiration to Andrew and his pursuit of singing as a full time career.
Andrew has won the hearts of millions with his angelic voice and his steely determination through difficult times. Now with the release of his debut album, the sky is the limit for Andrew and his incredible talent. With its intensity and purity of voice, this album will take your breath away.
