Second Sight is delighted to announce the eagerly awaited DVD release of Peter Mayle’s A Year In Provence, featuring much-loved actor John Thaw (Inspector Morse, The Sweeney, Kavanagh QC) and Lindsay Duncan (Oliver Twist, Mansfield Park, Rome).
Having decided to leave their jobs, London and the rat race behind them, the Mayles (Thaw and Duncan) head to the South of France, seduced by the prospect of the idyllic countryside, the simple rural way of life, great food, fine wines and sun.
However, everything is not quite as they imagined it to be, and one comic situation follows another as they brave mistral winds, truffle season and its mafia involvement and a succession of colourful characters that constantly interrupt their plan for a quiet life.
Adapted from Mayle’s critically acclaimed novel of the same name, the hugely popular BBC series is a charming and humorous portrayal of the couple’s initial struggle to adapt to rural life in Southern France and follows them through the year as they grow to love their new neighbours and friends.
Filmed entirely in the South of France, A Year In Provence produces spectacular scenery which fits hand in hand with the superb supporting French cast; notable highlights including Bernard Spiegel as Marcel the postman and Jo Doumerg as Amedee, the neighbouring farmer.
Originally aired to an audience of 14.5 million, the long sought after re-release of A Year In Provence will amuse and entertain both young and old.
A Year in Provence is released on 21st July 2008, RRP £15.99.
