Why is it so difficult to 'break in' to packaging these days?
By Jayne Warren - 17/03/2008
I don't know whether this is just a sign of age, but I find myself increasingly frustrated by modern packaging. Take toothbrushes, for instance. There you are, racing to get out of the house on time, and then suddenly you are confronted by your impenetrable toothbrush packaging. After several frustrating minutes of trying every which way to tear it open, rip it open and even bite it open, you are forced to hunt for the scissors. But the scissors have been left in a remote corner of the house having been used to open yet another pice of packaging the day before.
Result? Stress and being late (plus a torn fingernail or two, of course).
Possibly the worst offenders are the ubiquitous plastic shrink wrapped items - such as computer cartridges. A nightmare - even with scissors. And a surprising packaging 'Everest' I discovered just the other day were Post-It notes. It took me nearly five minutes to break open a new packet in the office.
What ever happened to simple paper bags and string?
Does anyone else find this frustrating? Do write and tell us about your most reviled packaging, please!
