Initiative turns scrap cars into cash for Diabetes UK
- Thursday, 16 August 2012
Diabetes UK has joined up with non-profit social enterprise Giveacar to encourage people to turn their old, scrap yard ready cars into much needed funds for charity.
The innovative scheme will see Giveacar collecting unwanted and unused cars from anywhere in the south west and turning them from scrap into cash for the charity.
Regardless of their condition, cars are collected free of charge nationwide by Giveacar then sold through an online auction or disposed of at an authorised treatment facility.
Profits from the sale are donated to Diabetes UK – and even if the unwanted car is scrapped, it still nets the charity between £40 and £160.
Zoë Steer, fundraising manager for Diabetes UK South West, said: “An old rusty car sitting on the drive can be a complete eyesore, as well as taking up space. This scheme can turn a pile of rusty scrap metal into much needed funds for Diabetes UK.
“The Giveacar scheme offers a quick and easy solution to getting rid of your old car, that’s also completely legal and environmentally friendly. As well as saying goodbye to an unwanted, rusty, old car the owner is able to donate to Diabetes UK at no cost to themselves, and they will be helping us to make life better for the 3.7 million people in the UK with diabetes and the 7 million people at high risk.”
