Re: Internet porn

I have written an email to my local MP, please see below, and wonder whether you would like to publish it in your letters, with a view that maybe other concerned grandparents may send it, or their own views, on to their local MPs.

I do feel it is very important for ordinary people, parents ,relatives, grandparents etc. to take a stand rather than letting politicians with their own agenda or lack of interest make a decision that will afffect the rest of our childrens lives.

Yours truly,

Patricia Deadman

Good Morning,

David Cameron’s' stance on the very serious problem of internet porn being so accessible to children is not strong enough. It appears that he and the government are more concerned with adult’s rights to access it without the bother or expense of subscription, rather than the rights of children to have a childhood while they can, without the shock and distress of witnessing pornographic images, with the resulting long lasting psychological effects.  It is our duty as adults, to protect children and to put their needs and safety, before any adult’s selfish desires.  Children these days are exposed already to too much media explicit sexual images, violence and bad language, on TV and other media.  They are targeted and manipulated by advertising and barely have any chance to have a period of childhood without the overwhelming pressure of materialism and sexualisation.

It is utterly feeble to say that the internet is global and therefore cannot be controlled. Controls can be put in place and we should not just sit back passively giving in to so called civil liberties before our children's welfare. Damaged children make damaged adults, resulting in civic disturbance to say the least, mental and criminal problems, that, apart from the heart ache of witnessing it, results in great expense for the country which should concern the government.

My question is; will you be actively supporting the ban on internet porn and promoting subscription.

Yours truly,
