Crude Humour
- Thursday, 21 March 2013
Being almost 70, I find nothing much wrong with rabelaisian humour, gallows humour, sarcasm, irony etc as long as it is FUNNY!
There is always the OFF button.
Why no flowers for hospital patients?
- Wednesday, 20 March 2013
Would it not be interesting to know who it was who originally issued the dictat preventing visitors from taking flowers to sick relatives in hospitals in this country?
Had people abided by this ban, presumably more thirsty patients would not have had the chance to drink the only water that was handy to them when they were being so badly neglected by "nurses".
All fingers and thumbs

The dexterity of today's texting generation nevertheless ceases to amaze me.
I recently observed a girl managing two smartphones simultaneously, another one using her phone whilst exercising on a running machine, but best of all a girl using her phone and chopsticks at the same time in a London restaurant!
Some really sound advice

I was interested in the article in the February issue about prostate cancer; but I was very disappointed that no mention was made of the benefits of an annual PSA check.
This is a simple blood test and can be carried out either as part of an annual “well man” check-up or on request to one’s GP. This test measures PSA (prostate specific antigen) in the blood; it is produced by normal cells in the prostate and by prostate cancer cells and can therefore give early warning of possible prostate cancer.

I had never read Mature Times before I read the 2013 editions.
With so many senior citizens in this country there has to be a newspaper which relates to older people and informs them of not only their rights, but how others of a similar age live, and this newspaper does just that and I enjoy reading it very much.
I look forward to reading further editions.

Wellbeing of the NHS

I am sure that the opinion I have of the excellent merits of the National Health Service is shared by most other people. It is in this context that I was disappointed to learn of the depressingly low standards of care provided by the mid-Staffordshire hospital. The whole staff appears to have been in the grip of a dysfunctional culture.
Are we invisible?
- Tuesday, 19 March 2013
I have just completed two surveys online at the request on the shop till receipts. One was for Marks & Spencer, the other for Halfords. The ‘carrot’ is a prize draw. At the end of both surveys I was asked my sex and age group and here is where my complaint is. There were little boxes to tick if you were 0-20; 21-30; 31-40; 41-50; 51-64; 65 and over. Then nothing. If you are over 65 you are invisible and obviously do not count! Whatever happened to 61-70; 71-80; 81-90; 91 and over?
This law is an ass

Not long ago, householders would do their best to clear the snow on the path to their houses. And both they, and shopkeepers, would make some attempt to clear the pavements outside their properties.
Offensive humour

I am sure I cannot be the only reader to be disturbed by all the swearing and toilet humour that now graces, or rather disgraces, BBC radio and television. The frequency of such jokes suggests that they are now a major aspect of BBC entertainment.
