Singing Baker, Beca Lyne-Pirkis, who is currently appearing as a contestant on BBC2’s The Great British Bake Off has created an autumn themed cake recipe especially to support one of SSAFA’s most loved and successful fundraising events; the Big Brew Up. Beca who is originally from Wales is also a member of the Aldershot Military Wives Choir. She is hoping the recipe will inspire people to take part in Big Brew Up Week - 7th-13th October.

When making red velvet cake, it’s really important to use the right red food colouring: either Sugarflair Red Extra paste or Dr Oetker Natural Red. Don’t get the standard red colouring, as the cake will turn brown when you bake it.

A hidden hoard of eighteenth century recipes has come to light for the first time in nearly 200 years in a central London archives centre.
Staff at Westminster City Council’s Archives Centre came across the recipes earlier this year in a digital project where some sources were posted online and began sharing its culinary delights in the “Cookbook of Unknown Ladies” blog.
