Theresa Fisher reviews the Indoor Allotment

Indoor AllotmentNot being an overly green-fingered person, I was interested but apprehensive in trying out the Indoor Allotment.

It’s a pretty set with the picket fencing and miniature garden shed – already made up in the packaging with full instructions on how to plant the herbs using the seeds and compacted soil which are both included – along with a miniature set of herb clippers for when the herbs are ready to use.

Each pot has its own tray underneath for drainage capture so water doesn't end up all over your windowsill and the set stays neat and tidy.

Cakepoptastic! Lucy Rawlins tries to make her own

cakepopsticksWho would’ve ever thought that little balls of cake on a stick would become so popular! But they have, they are delicious, and they are ever so much fun to make!

Premier Housewares has brought out a fantastic silicone mould to be able to make your Cakepops perfectly every time.

The silicone is completely flexible and washable, and with the two parts joining together – fabulously making a cake-tight seal around each section - meaning there is no overspill. Each section has a small hole in the top so you can easily test whether the cakepops are cooked or not, without having to lift the lid and potentially make a mess.

Want a real ‘friend’ to help with your spring cleaning

BKF with_daffs.high_res_avIf you want some extra help with those stubborn stains Bar Keepers Friend Power Cream and Bar Keepers Friend Power Spray is just the ticket!

I have a black tea and a black coffee drinker in my household and have only been able to remove the mug stains in the past with bleach, followed by a full cycle in the dishwasher.

Now I have just the product I’ve been looking for in the Power Cream, which removes the thick brown deposits a treat - and better still it leaves no after taste or smell.

Lucy Rawlins reviews the Swann Doorphone with LCD display monitor

Swann doorphoneSwann describes their unit as “ideal for all home and small business environments where you want to know who is at the door”.

For Home I would certainly agree - it is lovely. Being able to see who is at the front door before opening it is great, and having the ability to assure your visitors you are inside is great for those with restricted mobility – or in my case, just a bit slow on occasion! It also enables you to speak to unknown visitors before deciding whether to open your door or not.

Patricia Vine reviews the Gemini JoyTAB

Gemini tabletIt was not long ago that the minimum you'd pay for a decent 10in tablet was around £350. Well, things are really changing, and the Gemini JoyTAB 9.7 is a relatively cheap 10in tablet at around £149.99.  However, you can get this one cheaper on the second hand market from retailers.

As bargain basement Android goes, it makes a pretty good first impression. Lift the lid on the brightly coloured box, and you'll find a well-made and reasonably attractive device. It isn't bulky and heavy like other some other cheap tablets. It weighs in at 672g – around the same as an iPad 3 – and is a slim 10mm thick.

Lucy Rawlins reviews the Kobo Arc tablet and eReader

Kobo ArcOn opening the box of the Arc it looks fabulous. It has a beautiful – almost classy – matt outer casing, which comes in a range of tasteful colours. The external buttons to switch on and off, and to change the volume, are large enough to locate, and to distinguish the difference between each one.

Setting up the Arc (not unlike most other tablets) was a little tricky in the respect that you have to have Wi-Fi connection to even start with, then to have all the connection details to hand to proceed. If you don’t have Wi-Fi, you can’t do anything further. But once the connection has been made, there is a simple on-screen step-by-step guide.

Lucy Rawlins reviews a day out @Bristol

bristol animationWhat a great place to take the grandkids for the day! All the exhibits are all-age-friendly so no one is left out, and as soon as you walk into the vast open space of educational fun, you can see why it's so popular. We spent almost a whole day exploring.

The first "station" you come to is a fabulous "through the ages" projection unit, which until you watch the curiousness of children, you don't realise that it's functioned using the latest X-Box technology and is fully interactive - you can put your hands and arms "into" the image and all sorts of spiders and creepy crawlies climb along your arms.

Lucy Rawlins reviews Drayton Manor's Knight Before Christmas experience

Draytons Magical_Christmas_1This year’s theme at Drayton Manor Theme Park is the ‘Knight Before Christmas’. The promise of the full Christmassy experience is fulfilled by the full transformation of the Excalibur ride into a Santa’s Grotto, complete with reindeer and friendly elves; a wonderful fireworks display, with the usual loud bangs of fireworks have been replaced by extra sparkle and colour, and a light display.

There is also a showing in 4D of the film Polar Express, which is a nice touch to the festivities, and an experience for the youngsters who won’t be expecting the “extras” that come along with the full 4D experience.
