Mature Times article, 'Two thirds want a Retirement Minister'
- Tuesday, 02 October 2012
For the past at least two years the Scottish Seniors Alliance has been campaiging to establish a Pensioners Parliament in Scotland.
We want is a Retirement Minister appointed by whatever party is in power, who under pressure would have to take the Party Line and as Neil Duncan-Jordan, of the National Pensioners' Convention, rightly says the post would become a token effort to appease the elderly population.
What we need is a Pensioners Parliament run and manned by pensioners on the same lines as the Irish and the Welsh.
The NPC (National Pensioners' Convention) say they speak on-behalf of nearly 12,000,000 pensioners in the UK. Well I say stand up and be counted and at the next elections put up a pensioner for election in every constituency.
Let's show the politicians who keep paying us "the pensioners" lip service the power of The Grey Vote.
PS To all politicians.
It is not good enough just to listen you need to act.
PPS The Nothern Irish and Welsh now have a Pensioners Parliament in place!
